How Handy’s Co-founders Came up with an Online Home Service Company

Handy is a New York based cleaning company. Before coming up with the company, the co-founders were passionate about building a profitable home cleaning company. They also wanted a company that addresses the needs of investors uniquely.

When Handy.com was founded, the company first sought new cleaners. Co-CEO Hanrahan wanted recruit cleaners through an online portal. However, Dua tried to resist the idea since it was first brought up in 2014. He was concerned about applicants failing to complete the forms that were availed on the online portal. Several weeks later, they both agreed to launch the portal and assess its performance. Residents of Washington and Miami started using the system in 2015.

At the beginning of 2016, Hanrahan’s fear was Tuesday mornings. This is because Handy’s leadership meetings are usually held on Tuesday mornings at the company’s headquarters. Hanrahan’s was quite worried about his idea. The idea turned out to be a good one after Handy‘s quarterly results were released. During the leadership meetings, those present discussed ways in which the online system will benefit the company.

Hanrahan had previously predicted that Handy would save millions of dollars after implementing his idea. As the chief operating officer, Dua had evaluated the impacts of the online booking strategy. Handy rolled out the plan and saved a lot of cash in the process.
