Tampa Bay Lightning Add Depth Piece

Going into the 2017-18 NHL season, many people expected that the Tampa Bay Lightning would be able to compete for a playoff spot. The team had been considered one of the best teams in the league the past few years and has a number of younger players that are continuing to grow and develop. While there was a lot of anticipating over the team this year, most did not expect them to play this well during the regular season.

At this point in the season, which is almost 75% of the way over, the Lightning are continuing to look like they could compete for the overall Stanley Cup Championship. Through about 60 games, they are in first place in their division and are looking like they could compete for the number one overall seed in the playoffs. While the team has played very well through the first part of the year, they do not look as if they are done making the team better (https://www.nhl.com/lightning/news/lightning-claim-forward-gabriel-dumont-off-waivers-from-ottawa/c-296198474)

During the past week, the Lightning ended up claiming Gabriel Dumont off of the waiver wire. He was previously with the Ottawa Senators this year and should be a great addition to the team. Dumont has played in 30 games this year in a limited roll for Ottawa. While he has scored only one goal so far this year, the forward will be able to give the Lightning some much-needed depth. Dumont will be joining the team for the next game and is expected to start playing a lot as the team will look for ways to start resting their other key players.

Throught he first 60 games of the season, the Lightning have looked like one of the best teams in the league. They are among the league leaders in points scored due largely to the success of their offensive lines. Right-winger Nikita Kucherov is one of the best players in the league this year and currently has 78 points in total, which includes 32 goals and 46 assists. The other key player on the offense is Steve Stamkos who has 68 points, including 24 goals and 44 assists. The team also has one of the best goalie tandems in the league, which has allowed them to be very dominating this year.
