Zaunbie Nation Annexing from the Rays?
December 4th, 2009 | by Jason Collette |Gregg Zaun was on AM 590 in Toronto this morning and told the hosts he is signing with either Seattle, Milwaukee, Colorado, or back with the Rays, possibly by the end of the day. If he signs with one of the other teams, the Rays get s a compensation pick out of this because they offered him arbitration a few days ago so it is not a total loss. I would still prefer Zaun stay around here over Navarro because he is a better option against right-handed pitching and a better guy behind the plate. Given how much Kelly Shoppach struggles against righties, having a catcher on hand that hits righties well is a priority; if Zaun is gone, the Rays need to quickly find a Plan B if they share my lack of faith in Navarro.
Update – 2:30 ET – Zaun has signed a 1 yr deal with an option with Milwaukee for $2,150,000 guaranteed.
